I’m Valéry Ballais, a full-time professional translator and reviewer with 27 years of experience. I translate from English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese into French—my native language—and occasionally into English, Spanish, and Canadian French.
After working in-house for top LSPs in the UK and Spain, I became a freelancer in 2003. Since then, I’ve translated and reviewed millions of words across various industries, with a focus on technical, IT, medical, automotive, agriculture, and marketing content.

I work daily with Trados Studio and have strong experience using Transit NXT, as well as a wide range of online localization tools including MemoQ, Smartling, XTM, and others. These tools ensure consistency, accuracy, and faster turnaround in translation and revision work.

To guarantee quality and adherence to client guidelines, I use Xbench and Transistor for terminology checks, tag verification, and consistency control.

I operate with a 1 Gbit/s internet connection, enabling fast and efficient delivery of large projects, remote interpreting, and secure file handling.
Smart Use of AI
To enhance translation understanding, I integrate AI technology during complex projects. I use it only to clarify ambiguous sentences, always combining it with my linguistic expertise. However, if there is any doubt, it is important to check with the end customer. Indeed, nothing can replace the judgment of someone with true expertise.
